Aberdare National Park is located Central Highlands west of Mt. Kenya approximately 180 km from Nairobi via Nyeri encircled by the wild and beautiful moorlands of the third highest mountain range in Kenya. This atmospheric park offers a mist-wreathed realm where Elephants roam through lichen-hung forest, spectacular waterfalls plunge into churning pools and trout-filled streams cascade through mossy dells. Funds from Rhino charge event have helped Aberdare fence project.
This park is a haven for anglers, walkers and lovers of solitude alike, it also offers matchless views of glittering coronet of Mt. Kenya and the sparkling lakes (L. Naivasha & Nakuru) of the Great Rift Valley.
Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdare Ranges (Lunch, Dinner)
We depart early from Nairobi to cross the Kenyan Highlands through pineapple and coffee plantations to your "base hotel" in time for lunch. Afternoon transfer into Aberdare National Park in either one of the unique Lodges for bird watching and overnight floodlit game viewing from the lodge viewing decks.
The lodges are also the main attraction of the Aberdares. Both Treetops and The Fairmont Ark are built above the ground beside floodlit waterholes with salt licks. Visitors must book in advance and cannot make their own way to the lodges in private vehicles. Instead check-in is at the Aberdare Country club for The Ark and the Outspan Hotel for Treetops where you are transferred to the respective lodge. Treetops is one of Kenya's most famous hotels as this is where British Princess Elizabeth was informed that she was enthroned as Queen of England during her visit in 1952 soon after her father's death.
Nocturnal game viewing is the highlight of the tree lodges such that the guests are at liberty to request to be notified in the event that a rare animal turns up at the waterhole. African Elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and bushbuck are regular visitors. Dinner and overnight stay at The Ark / Treetops lodge.
