East Africa offers excellent mountain climbing, hiking, trekking and walking trails. Most visitors are content to marvel at the beauty of these East African mountains, but some will want to attempt to reach the peaks, a feat requiring considerable rock climbing skills, though the lesser peaks and glaciers can be scaled and walked by the fit and the adventurous.

Many people think that equatorial mountains are warmer than similar peaks in the northern hemisphere. On the contrary, Mountains in Central and East Africa can be very wet and extremely cold in the alpine zone. They go from high summer in the day to mid winter during the night.

We will ascend the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania at 5895m and Mt Kenya in Kenya, which forms part of the Central Highlands and is Africa's second highest mountain at 5199 meters.

The Ruwenzori Mountains in Uganda offer even more extensive mountain flora that covers hundreds of kilometers. Ruwenzori Mountains National Park protects the eastern slopes and glacial peaks of the 120km-long Ruwenzori Mountains or 'Mountains of the Moon', a world-class hiking and mountaineering destination whose significance as a source of the Nile was first alluded to by the geographer Ptolemy circa 150 AD. Rising from the Rift Valley floor to a wintry elevation of 5,109m, the Ruwenzori supports large tracts of evergreen and bamboo forest, while the higher moorland zone is known for its other-worldly cover of giant heathers, lobelias and groundsels.

Kenya: Volcanic Mt. Longonot, Aberdare Ranges, Ngong Hills, Hells Gate, Elementaita, Mt. Kilimambogo, Cherengani Hills, Chyulu Hills, Mt. Elgon that bisects the Kenya/Uganda border, among others.

Tanzania: Mount Meru, not far from Kilimanjaro. It is a beautiful volcano set in the animal wonderland of Arusha National Park. Mt Longido, Gelai, Lengai, Hanang among others.

Uganda: Moroto, Kadang among others.
