The Watamu beach road is about 10kms from North to South where it ends at the mouth of Mida Creek. The name "Watamu" means "sweet people" in Swahili. The name came from the fact that Arab slave traders used to distribute sweets to entice the local population before taking them as slaves.
Ocean Sports Resort in Watamu is a quiet beach resort with some lovely, deserted (or near-deserted) white sandy beaches. Snorkeling is one of the major attractions for anyone wishing to witness the amazing diversity and colorful underwater life. It is also a centre for bird watching, with Mida Creek and the Arabuko Sokoke Forest on the doorstep
