Hotel Kasr al Bahar is situated on tranquil Mtwapa Creek, 15km north of Mombasa and just 3km from Shanzu Beach, the Kasr al Bahar Hotel offers the ideal holiday combination of a small, intimate hotel with the facilities of a large hotel complex just a short ride away.
Accommodation
56 rooms are housed in three separate two storey buildings. They are spacious and have the added attraction of a separate seating area. All rooms have twin beds, a private shower and wc, a balcony or terrace with a table and chairs and air-conditioning. In all rooms there is a 13-amp power point and a safe for which a charge is made. Please note: it is possible to accommodate a third person in a standard twin room. Please note that there are no lifts.
Wining and Dining
At the Kasr al Bahar meals are taken in the restaurant which is decorated in keeping with the hotel's Arabic theme. A hot and cold buffet breakfast is offered. Lunch and dinner, including some local dishes, are served from a table d'hote menu. Alternatively, lunch or dinner may be taken at the main restaurant at any of our hotels on Shanzu Beach, at no extra cost (advance booking is required through your hotel reception desk). For that special occasion, you can dine al fresco in the hotel's 'Al Dabhra' à la carte restaurant, which overlooks Mtwapa Creek and is well-renowned for its fine international cuisine. This à la carte restaurant is included as part of our Gourmet Pass.
During the day, enjoy a refreshing drink either at the pool bar or lagoon bar, and in the evening enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail in the main restaurant bar.
Facilities and Entertainment
Walking through well-tended gardens you will find the hotel's swimming pool, pool bar and sun terrace which provide a quiet location in which to enjoy the sunshine. Down several flights of steep steps you reach the hotel's small jetty (not recommended for those with walking difficulties).
Within the hotel's grounds on Mtwapa Creek, you will find a large man-made lagoon. The surrounding area has a well-tended garden with sun beds, and a bar for those refreshing drinks and snacks during the day. Sun beds and pool towels are free to guests.
Should you feel energetic you can play boules and mini-golf and the hotel has a small shop for gifts and souvenirs. You can also relax on the beach, swim in the sea, play tennis and enjoy the many facilities offered at the nearby Flamingo Beach Hotel on Shanzu Beach with our complimentary bus service. At certain times of the year, a free boat service operates from the hotel's jetty to African Safari Club's private Marina on Mtwapa Creek ("Pirates Bay") and then a short bus ride takes you to the Flamingo Beach Hotel with the transfer operating in reverse in the late afternoon.
Evening entertainment at the hotel comprises music and dancing one evening each week. There is also a wider choice of evening entertainment at our other hotels on Shanzu Beach and at 'Pirates Bay', African Safari Club's private Marina on Mtwapa Creek. Complimentary transport is available, on request, for those who have booked a Gourmet Pass. For those without a Gourmet Pass, taxis can be arranged with costs payable locally.
Watersports
If watersports are your passion or you would like to give them a try, there's dinghy sailing, windsurfing and more, available at the independent watersports centres located on Shanzu Beach.
Diving Holidays
Kenya offers some of the best diving in the world with a coral reef that extends almost the entire length of the coast with a wide variety of marine flora and fauna. Diving is available offering excellent facilities for both the beginner and more experienced diver at "Pirates Bay". PADI courses are available throughout the year. These are only bookable locally.
