Olonana Tented Camp is an award-winning tented camp on a private stretch of the Mara River, at the foot of the impressive Siria Escarpment close to where the famous last scene from "Out of Africa" was filmed. Located close to the border with Tanzania, the game concentration is high - and during the annual wildebeest migration, the action happens right on the camp's doorstep.
There are several daily scheduled flights to and from the Masai Mara. In Nairobi scheduled flights depart from Wilson Airport (approximately 45 minutes). Flights to Olonana Tented Camp land at the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip and the drive takes approximately 15 minutes (more if game viewing on the way) to get to the camp. If traveling by road, the drive to the Masai Mara goes through the Rift Valley and takes approximately six hours from Nairobi. www.crocodileracers.com
Olonana Tented Camp is a small luxury camp with 14 spacious tents. Each tent has floor to ceiling mosquito netting, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers, flush lavatories, solar lighting and large, river view verandas. The fourteen canvas tents at Sanctuary Olonana are extremely comfortable and spacious. All have parquet floors, four-poster beds and private verandas overlooking the river.
The main dining room and veranda commands a dramatic stretch of the Mara River providing the perfect setting for breakfast, afternoon tea and after dinner star gazing. There is a swimming pool, a mini-spa and a small gift shop. Solar power supplies 240v electricity and there is a back-up generator.
Olonana Camp is located in the Masai Mara Game Reserve - fabulous for seeing big cats, their prey and all the Big Five. The Mara is also the stage for the greatest show on Earth - the wildebeest migration. From around July to October grunting herds of wildebeest and zebra cover the plains, often crossing the river between Tanzania and Kenya, attended by crocodile, lion and cheetah.
