Diamond Beach Village Lamu Kenya

Print PDF

Diamond Beach Village, Lamu restaurant seating area is shaded from the sun with large palm thatched umbrellas, conveniently situated with a fantastic view of the Indian Ocean. Our highly trained chef, Kazungu, prepares a variety of dishes from traditional Swahili cuisine to more conventional western as well as vegetarian food.

A must for breakfast is banana pancakes and fruit salad with fresh Kenyan coffee or chai tea made from local spices, or toast and eggs with home made papaya jam. Lamu's best kept secret is its freshly caught sea food... lobster, king prawns, mangrove crab, red snapper, tuna, squid, and much more...

The blackboard gets written up every morning and depends on what the local fishermen bring in. Red and White Snapper are often on the menu simply pan-fried with various spices and served with coconut rice and local spinach. The favourite lunch time option is the Diamond Beach Mangrove Crab sandwich served with homemade tomato chutney. Our wood fire pizza oven makes the best pizzas in the archipelago.

An example of dinner would be tempura jumbo prawns with dips to start , followed by yellow lentil dhal , barracuda steak with rice and if you are still hungry, a pineapple crumble with custard or a simple fruit salad.

Blue Moon Bar & Pizza Oven

This is a funky new area in which to relax, have pre dinner drinks and watch the sunset with a bowl of plantain crisps. With locally made sofas and low chairs to large comfortable bar stools, everywhere you look there is the perfect spot to chill out with one of Kombo's famous Caphrinias and catch up on the day with pre dinner drinks. We have a fully stocked bar from Vodka to Tusker - the local lager served chilled – to white wine Spritzas and Bloody Marys brimming with ice. Fresh juices like tamarind or passion go down well in the heat of the day under the large thatched roof.

The stone bake pizza oven is a big hit. Fantastic wood baked pizza's with a variety of ingredients are served on wooden boards with chilli oil. Every Saturday night Diamond has 'Pizza and film night' which is always a popular meeting point for locals and tourists. Seafood pizza is a top choice or the Diamond with salami, mushroom olive and onion.

Library and Chill Out

Our 'yoga studio', built for John Scott is now a chill out area for guests, with swinging chairs and beds, a large library and games. It is very easy to spend the day reading, dozing off and drinking fresh fruit juices until it's time for cocktails in the bar.

Our giant clam shells in the garden under the acacia trees act as bird baths and attract a colourful array of beautiful birds at both dawn and dusk. Sit and watch them play as you relax and enjoy your drinks. Or lie under the shade of the acacia trees on the swing beds and hammocks while listening to the lap of the Indian Ocean which is just a ten second walk away. At dusk, Diamond Beach enjoys the full view of some of the most breathtaking African sunsets. When night falls you can find your way back to your banda, lit by the shimmering light of a billion stars, over 180 degrees of perfectly clear sky. Or perhaps enjoy a moonlit swim where the shimmer of the phosphorescence is truly spectacular.
