Sosian lodge is a beautifully restored African ranch house that was built in the 1940's by Italian artisans, and accommodates up to fourteen people in the atmosphere of a private home. Sosian lodge seven cottages lie in the tropical garden overlooking Mt Kenya and miles of unspoiled Africa, each with its own private verandah and en suite bathroom.
Sosian ranch itself is a privately owned game ranch, located on the Laikipia Plateau, an area historically known for its wildlife and ranching traditions. Whilst Sosian ranch retains a small herd, of cattle the majority of the land has been turned over to wildlife. The original house forms the centerpiece of the Sosian lodge.
Sosian lodge has a swimming pool, tennis court and miles of wilderness to explore with top guides. Sosian is well known for its delicious home cooking using fresh ingredients from the organic vegetable garden and for its warm and friendly hospitality.
Sosian lodge offers extremely wide range of activities including day and night vehicle safari, walks, horse and camel rides around the ranch, overnight camping in remote locations, plus swimming, tennis and snooker back at base. A wide variety of ecosystems are present on Sosian Private Ranch.
The northern half of the ranch is dominated by open grass plains dotted with acacia trees. Herds of the rare Grevy's zebra, Grant's gazelle, oryx and other antelope congregate here.
The southern part of Sosian Private Ranch is mostly acacia woodland and inhabited by elephant, buffalo, reticulated giraffe and impala. Lion and leopard are seen or heard regularly around Sosian.
Even endangered wild dogs, thought to be extinct in Laikipia, have returned to the area in healthy numbers. Bisecting the southern portion of Sosian is the Ewaso Narok River which provides the perfect habitat for hippo, otter and prolific birdlife.
