Print PDF

Sabuk Lodge and Cottages are an entrancing haven on the edge of the Laikipia plateau, overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River and the plains of Laikipia towards Mount Kenya.
The Laikipia plateau stretches from the foothills of the Aberdares, across vast open plains to the Northern Frontier District and the Mathews Range. Sabuk Lodge and Cottages region nurtures exceptional wildlife and cultural diversity, home to many communities including the Laikipiak Masai and the Samburu tribes.

Around Sabuk Lodge the area is wild and hilly, with dense acacia bush, Greater Kudu, Reticulated Giraffe, Buffalo, Impala, Elephant, Klipspringer, Zebra, Eland, DikDik, Waterbuck, Lion, Leopard, great bird watching and incredible scenery.

Sabuk Lodge and Cottages is perched high on the river banks of the Uaso Nyiro River. Sabuk's 5 spacious stone & thatch cottages: 2 with king size beds, 2 with twin beds and 1 triple are open at the front with stunning views of the river and cliffs.

Each thatched rondavel (circular cottage) at Sabuk Lodge and Cottages has its own unique design, crafted from local stone and ancient cedar and olive wood, gathered from the local area. En-suite bathrooms, modern flush toilets and a private verandah with a view make each cottage a haven in itself at Sabuk Lodge and Cottages.

At Sabuk Lodge and Cottages, you get to leave your vehicles behind and get back to nature with walks along the river, accompanied by the local Laikipiak Masai guides, who pass on their knowledge and traditional uses of the flora in the area. Sabuk's guests enjoy picnics overlooking the plains, lulled by the sound of the river which flows all year round.

Sabuk Lodge and Cottages is also the base for full walking and camel safaris. Led by a professional safari guide and his team of Laikipiak trekkers, guests can choose to fly-camp out in the wilderness for one or several nights before returning to the home comforts of the lodge.

Activities at Sabuk Lodge and Cottages include game drives through the hilly countryside around camp, guided walks with camels to explore the area, horse riding and river fishing. Enjoy bush breakfasts and sundowners with the added treat of a night game drive back to camp afterwards, looking out for the nocturnal Bush babies and Aardvark close by.
