Segera is situated in the wooded savannah and grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau. It is home to a vast array of animal, bird and plant life and provides an important corridor for the migration of elephant and other wide ranging species. The area has become a sanctuary for lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, eland and a wealth of plains game, including many endemic northern species such as reticulated giraffe and beisa oryx. 365 bird species have been recorded in the Laikipia area, the majority of which can be found on Segera. These include the lesser kestrel and pallid harrier, sooty falcon, red-footed falcon, European roller and corncrake. It is also home to numerous reptile and insect species.www.crocodileracers.com
Wildlife roams freely and safely, its movements monitored and documented, and conserved by an efficient and well-organised conservation unit.
Five timber and thatch villas (and a two-bedroom Family Villa) have an elevated position on wooden platforms raised above the attractive sculpture garden. Each has views onto the surrounding savannah and beyond over the Laikipia Plateau towards the spectacular Mount Kenya. Swing beds below the villas provide the perfect shaded spot for midday relaxation as well as for a night out under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of Africa.
The gracious Segera House and perfectly positioned Villa Segera boast similarly spectacular views and even greater privacy and luxury.
Within the privacy of the villas, a large bedroom and en-suite bathroom fill the upstairs space under timber trusses. A private sun deck in the garden offers comfortable sun loungers for soaking up the African sun, while a Jacuzzi bath, sunk into the deck outside the bedroom, offers a unique vantage point. Each villa includes in its décor original, individually selected paintings and other art from a range of Africa's most inspiring artists.
The ranch has been beautifully renovated yet keeping many of its original architectural features. The stables along with the nearby Wine Tower form part of the main area complete with bar and dining room filled with selected works of locally and internationally acclaimed artists. The Paddock House provides stunning views of Mount Kenya from its vast terraces, with ample space for comfortable lounging, reading and relaxing during the day and evening.
Guests also have the rare opportunity to view the private art collection of Segera's owner, which includes a number of striking sculptures that dot the retreat, including the botanical garden in the "Oasis" and throughout the landscape of Segera.
Guests also have use of a spa, gym and central pool offering an outdoor dining area with a deck and sun loungers. Meals and private dining are served al fresco in a number of locations throughout the Retreat. The superb cuisine provides guests with a variety of delicious and healthy meals.
The Segera Spa offers a choice of beauty products and treatments to relax and revitalise the mind, body and soul. Signature treatments are designed around a Rock Stone Bath, the Rasul Chamber experience and a holistic approach.
