Depart Nairobi in the morning for Crater Lake alternatively to Hell's Gate National park driving down the escarpment via the floor of the Great Rift Valley. A brief stop-over at Mai Mahiu viewpoint to capture the breathtaking Great Rift Valley.
Crater Lake is a secluded green soda lake at the bottom of an extinct volcano, tucked away in the Rift Valley of Kenya. It is in the author's opinion, the most beautiful natural phenomenon in Kenya. There is a magical lakeside Crater Lake Camp which is a perfect stopover en route to the Nakuru and the Masai Mara game parks as well as a romantic getaway by itself!
History is everywhere at Crater Lake Naivasha. The 10,000-acre game sanctuary houses the famous hilltop grave where Happy Valley's tragic heroine, Lady Diana Delamere, is buried with her last two husbands, Gilbert Colvile and Thomas Delamere. For the truly intrepid, there are the mysterious 'Caves of God' in the golden wheatfields of Ndabibi, reputed to be an inspiration for H. Rider Haggard's Allan Quartermain.

Hell's Gate National Park lies to the south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya, North West of Nairobi. The park which is mainly comprised of savannah ecosystem habours a wide variety of wildlife. There are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, Verreaux's Eagles, augur buzzard, and swifts. African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle, and baboons are also common. The park is also home to klipspringer antelope and Chanler's mountain reedbuck.
Although the gorges were recently closed as a result of a flooding accident, the park offers other imminent attractions including the naturally heated geothermal swimming pool and spa branded as Mvuke Spa. At a minimal additional cost of Kshs 400 you can have access to the swimming pool. There is also an ala carte restaurant for your meals and drinks.
