dolphins_at_kisite_and_wasini_Island_day_tourOur representative will pick you from your beach hotel and depart for Shimoni in time to board a traditional dhow for Kisite Marine Park. Wasini Island & Kisite are located about 110km from Mombasa. An area of pristine coral reefs, lagoons and white sandy beaches, this marine park offers some the finest snorkeling in Kenya.

Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park is located on the south coast off Shimoni and south of Wasini Island in Kwale District on the south Kenyan coast near the Tanzanian border. The complex covers a marine area with four small islands surrounded by coral reef. Kisite island is a small waterless coral island,

8 km offshore in the Marine Park. Coral platforms around the raised central portion are exposed at low tide. There are three other coral islets in the park (Mpunguti ya Juu, Mpunguti ya Chini and Jiwe la Jahazi) which lie closer to the larger Wasini Island. The surrounding waters have well developed coral gardens and a large variety of fish.

Marine life: Comprises more than 250 recorded species, including fish, dolphins, sea turtles, whales, corals, sea grass, and gastropods. Birds: Many seabirds in large nesting colonies and internationally significant numbers of crab-plover and roseate tern.  Lunch will be served at Wasini island Restaurant before we return to the mainland for a historic visit to the Mashimoni Slaves Caves and thereafter a drive back to our base hotel at Mombasa

ITINERARY:

This excursion begins with transfer pickup from your beach hotel and a drive to the south coast's Shimoni Pier that overlooks the Wasini Channel. When you arrive, you meet the experienced dive team and listen to a brief introduction about the trip and available options before setting sail in an authentic dhow.

As you sail to the park site, you may spot dolphin, including the rare humpback dolphin, as well as aquatic seabirds. Once in the marine park, your adventure begins as you slowly go below the surface to enter an underwater realm that is filled with beautiful coral, fish, sea turtle and other inhabitants. For snorkelers, the outer reef of a rocky islet gives you the chance to see underwater life from a unique vantage point of gazing down into the water to locate and observe the animals. After a morning of diving and snorkeling, lunch is served at the Wasini Island Restaurant and then the rest of your day may be spent with a visit to the local village by Wasini Coral gardens, or you may even rejuvenate with a nap or just relax on the beachfront and watch the ocean waves splashing against the rocky corals.
