Travel Summary:
This safari is to Kenya's greatest concentration of game the Masai Mara which is a continuous ecosystem with the Serengeti in Tanzania. The ultimate action here is without doubt the annual wildebeest migration in July through to October when millions of these grass eaters move north from the Serengeti in search of lusher grass before turning back south again in October. However game viewing is rewarding all year round. On our way to Maasai Mara, we pass through Kenya's Rift valley escarpment which offers some breath taking views. Animals to look out for; Wildebeest, Topis, Grants gazelle, Thomson Gazelle, Impalas, Elands, Hartebeests, Giraffes, Zebras, Buffalos, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Bat-eared fox, Jackals, Hyenas, Crocodiles, Hippos, more than 470 species of birds are to be found; some of which include: Vultures, Marabou storks, Secretary birds, Hornbills, Crowned cranes, Ostriches, Long-crested eagles, African pygmy-falcons, lilac-breasted roller which is the national bird of Kenya among many others.
Day 1: Nairobi – Mara
Depart in the morning as we drive towards the escarpment (stopping to enjoy views of the Rift valley) and down the floor of the Great Rift Valley via Narok town (the Masai district town). Lunch en route followed by afternoon game drive. We camp at our semi-permanent Talek riverside campsite situated at the edge of the park (next to Talek gate). Set up tents or use our wood cabins (if available). Hot showers and toilets are available in the camp and meals are served in the dining area. (Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 2 & 3: Maasai Mara
Early morning and late afternoon game drives returning to the campsite for lunch. Optional visit to Masai village or local school. Alternatively, spend the entire day on a game drive (with packed lunch) returning to the campsite in the early evening hours. (Breakfast, Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 4: Masai Mara – Nairobi
Depart camp and drive through the reserve viewing game as we proceed to the main Narok road where we will stop for a chance to buy souvenirs or have a cup of coffee / tea. Arrival in Nairobi by late afternoon. (Breakfast & Picnic lunch)
