Vacation Summary:
This tour is to the world famous Bird Sanctuaries of the Great Rift Valley Lakes Baringo, Bogoria and Nakuru, then South over the Mau Escarpment to Kenya's greatest concentration of game Masai Mara. Lake Baringo is Kenya's bird watching centre with more than 450 species sighted here as well as Hippos, Crocodiles and Monitor lizards whilst Lake Bogoria offers hot springs and various bird species as the main attraction. Lake Nakuru national park is home to the endangered Black and White Rhinos, various Antelopes, bird species, Flamingoes and the elusive Leopard whilst Masai Mara offers the best chance to see the Big 5, cats of mara and numerous herbivores.
Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Baringo
Depart Nairobi in the early morning stopping enroute to view the spectacular Great Rift Valley. Lunch along the way then set up camp in Lake Baringo in the late afternoon. As long as the wind conditions are favorable, we enjoy an evening boat ride in search of Hippos, Crocodiles and Birds of East Africa. A bird watcher's haven but beware this is malaria land so it's best to come prepared with drugs and mosquito repellant. (Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 2: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria & Lake Nakuru
Break camp after an early breakfast and drive 30km south to the spectacular Lake Bogoria. After arrival at Lake Bogoria, we enjoy the walks by the Lake, boil stuff courtesy of nature Geysers. Lunch en route before proceeding towards Lake Nakuru national park. At 180sq km, an afternoon game drive will suffice to explore this small but interesting park with habitats which include Big 4, grass, bush, euphorbia, acacia forests, rocky cliffs home to troops of Baboons and rock Hyraxes. Set up camp at a campsite (cold at night). (Breakfast, Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 3: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara
Break camp after breakfast then depart towards Mai Mahiu and Narok town with lunch en route before arriving at Masai Mara Game Reserve. View game en route towards our Talek campsite situated at the edge of the park (next to Talek gate). Set up tents or use our wood cabins (if available). Hot showers and toilets are available in the camp and meals are served in the dining area. (Breakfast, Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 4 & 5: Maasai Mara
Early morning and late afternoon game drives returning to the campsite for lunch. Optional visit to Masai village or local school. Alternatively spend the entire day on a game drive (with packed lunch) returning to the campsite in the early evening hours. (Breakfast, Picnic lunch & Dinner)
Day 6: Masai Mara – Nairobi
Depart camp and drive through the reserve viewing game as we proceed to the main Narok road where we will stop for a chance to buy souvenirs or have a cup of tea / coffee. Arrive Nairobi by late afternoon. (Breakfast & Picnic lunch)
